Alzheimer’s – irreversible and incurable?
According to official sources, Alzheimer’s disease is an irreversible and steadily advancing disease that makes it impossible for those affected to do even the simplest tasks independently.
Alzheimer’s disease effects the patient to think clearly, to remember, to make decisions, and even to recognize the close relatives. In Switzerland alone, 110,000 people are affected by Alzheimer’s disease, in Germany it is 1.4 million. To date, there are no remedies or therapies that could promise a long-lasting improvement in the symptoms.
Can you protect yourself from Alzheimer’s disease?
But what about prevention? Is there really no hope to protect effectively from the onset of Alzheimer’s disease? To date, the major pharmacists have not made any significant progress in this area. Natural healers and complementary medicine, however, already.
The most recent discovery in this context was made by scientists from the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Science at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. The use of extra virgin olive oil could help reduce Alzheimer’s risk.
Anti-Alzheimer’s substance found in olive oil
The study, published by the American Chemical Society (ACS), ACS Chemical Neuroscience, concluded that a substance was found in olive oil that could promote the degradation of Alzheimer’s protein deposits in the brain And remove these disturbing substances from the brain.
Amal Kaddoumi and her colleagues at ACS say that it has long been known that there were far less Alzheimers in the Mediterranean countries than in other regions of the world.
Olive oil was supposed to be responsible for this serious difference. After all, it is an important part of the Mediterranean diet and is nowhere more frequently consumed than in the Mediterranean.
The anti-Alzheimer effect of olive oil was once attributed to its high concentration of healthy monounsaturated fatty acids.
However, recent studies have shown that the substance of the olive oil that protects the disease may be the so-called oleocanthal. This substance is supposed to protect the nerve cells from the alzheimertypischen damage.
Olive oil removes Alzheimer’s deposits in the brain
Kaddoumi’s team tried to find out whether Oleocanthal actually helped reduce the accumulation of beta-amyloids in the brain. Beta-amyloids are officially still the main trigger for Alzheimer’s disease. These are protein-containing deposits in the brain, the so-called plaques.
The researchers now investigated the influence of oleocanthal both in the brain itself (in vivo) and in cultured brain cells (in vitro) of laboratory mice. The mice used in the experiments were grown so that they were suitable under laboratory conditions as a substitute object for human patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
What were the results? Oleocanthal proved to be effective in this study. Thus, in each individual case, it was shown that the substance accelerated the production of two proteins and key enzymes, which probably play an important role in the elimination of the harmful beta-amyloids.
The right fat supply for Alzheimer’s prevention
This gives us the use of extra virgin olive oil – in addition to its positive effects on atherosclerosis, cholesterol levels, hypertension, depression, cancer as well as liver diseases and much more. – another great health benefit.
Use extra virgin olive oil for salads and raw food. You should only heat it slightly. Extra virgin olive oil is therefore suitable for steaming. For frying, however, you should choose another oil, for example organic coconut oil, red organic palm oil or a high-quality cooking oil.
