The watermelon – an underestimated food

Responsible for this is the amino acid citrulline, which is abundant in the water melon. Once in the body, it is converted to the amino acid arginine. In this form it has a vasodilating effect.
Arginine makes the blood circulate more easily, so that a diseased increase in blood pressure is counteracted. This can significantly reduce the risk of associated cardiovascular diseases.
Study investigates the effect of water melons on blood pressure
Florida State University nutritionists have under the guidance of Dr. Arturo Figueroa in a study demonstrating that the consumption of six grams of citrulline over a period of six weeks normalizes the systolic and diastolic blood pressure of all patients (9 persons) participating in the study could. Dr. Arturo Figueroa and his team were the first scientists to document this significant improvement in blood pressure, caused by regular water-melon consumption.
