Sweetener as a sugar substitute?
If you want to lose weight, you should not consume much sugar. Because many still do not want to do without sweets, they resort to sweeteners or products that contain them. Numerous so-called “diet” products contain several sweeteners.
Diabetics also often advise doctors and nutritionists to replace sugars with sweeteners.
Since these do not pass through the intestinal mucosa, they do not enter the body. From this, many experts have hitherto shown that they can not cause any damage to the organism.
Sweeteners increase diabetes risk
That this is not true, an Israeli researcher noted in a multi-part study.
Dr. Eran Elinav and Prof. Eran Segal from the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot found that sweeteners increase body weight and disturb the glucose metabolism. These, in turn, are risk factors for diabetes.
For the first experiment, they added the sweeteners saccharin (E 954), sucralose (E 955) or aspartame (E 951) to the drinking water of mice for eleven weeks. A fourth group got sugar water to drink, the control group pure water.
The mice that had absorbed sweeteners had the highest glucose level – higher than the blood glucose level of the mice that had been drinking sugar water.
Sweeteners: Health risks from the laboratory
Most sweeteners are developed in laboratories, they are artificially produced chemical substances.
They are sold as sugar substitutes, but are also added to numerous foods. They are particularly frequently found in food and “diet” products. In the list of ingredients, you will recognize them by the abbreviations E 950 to E 962.
Although more and more studies prove the opposite, countless nutritionists and even scientific institutes claim that sweeteners are unimpressive of health.
It is known, for example, that the sweetener aspartame (E 951) has a neurotoxic effect – so it is a nerve pest!
If you want to lose weight or reduce your risk of diabetes, you should not use sweeteners or products that contain sweeteners. A low-sugar diet is the only way to keep blood glucose levels low and healthy in a healthy way.
